“A população dos estados de Minas Gerais, Goiás e Mato Grosso do Sul passam a receber, nesta segunda-feira (15), avisos por SMS em caso de desastres naturais. O serviço tem como objetivo orientar quanto aos procedimentos a serem adotados diante do risco de inundações, alagamentos, temporais ou deslizamentos de terra, entre outras ocorrências.”

A new tool to help countries in crisis develop an education plan

Millions of children around the world are affected by conflict, natural disasters, complex humanitarian emergencies, internal strife, and fragility. Increasingly, the world’s out-of-school children live in countries facing war, violence and disasters. As a result, they are deprived of their right to education.

In order to maintain children’s access to quality education in these countries, the Global Partnership for Education provides targeted supports including: helping countries develop education sector plans (ESP) that reinforce emergency readiness, preparedness, and planning, providing accelerated funding to respond to crises quickly, and supporting the preparation of transitional education plans (TEP).

Federal Disaster Assistance Requested as Lava Advances

The state, meantime is working to accommodate approximately 900 schoolchildren that will be displaced by the lava flow.  Other state efforts include support for air quality monitoring. Also in September, the state Department of Education initiated contingency plans for area public schools, announcing work to build an alternate site for elementary students in preparation for lava to eventually cross Pāhoa’s Highway 130.
