Increasing inclusion in emergency education: key issues from the Inclusive Education and Disability Task Team

Abstract

The session will introduce the recent work of INEE’s Inclusion and Disability Task Team, highlighting the concerns and issues which brought the team together and introducing the key learning and guidance which the team has developed. This will include a brief assessment of how inclusion features in education emergency response, and an introduction to a practice resource for field staff. The session will introduce and discuss advocacy messages for humanitarian and donor agencies to promote inclusive education in emergencies. It will also aim to capture participants’ own views on the barriers to inclusion in education emergency response, as a starting point for a more in depth working session.

Session Objectives

  • Objective 1: Share tools and information produced by the inclusive education and disability task team (over the last year) to ensure that network members’are enabled to participate in education in emergencies.
  • Objective 2: Capture participants’ experience, priorities, concerns and questions around inclusive education in emergencies as a basis for subsequent capacity development and advocacy
  • Objective 3: Capture initial ideas for how INEE can continue to strengthen the capacity and confidence of the network around inclusive education.


Expected Outcomes

  • Outcome 1: Distribution of new INEE inclusive education booklet
  • Outcome 2: Greater awareness of information and materials available through IE and disability task team/INEE website
  • Outcome 3: A set of key issues and ideas to shape the subsequent working session on inclusive education, and to feed into future INEE capacity development and networking activity.
