What can be expected from the INEE Secretariat?

The Secretariat works closely with the Steering Group, the Working Group on Minimum Standards, Working Group on Education and Fragility, the Task Teams and Language Communities in order to ensure the right to education in emergencies, chronic crises and early reconstruction. The INEE Secretariat staff are based at The International Rescue Committee in New York, at UNICEF in New York, at UNESCO in Paris and at UNHCR in Geneva. Through its work, the INEE Secretariat strives to improve communication and coordination in the field of education in emergencies by cultivating and facilitating constructive and collaborative relationships between its members and strategic partners. Through these linkages, the Secretariat staff engages in the following activities:

Membership: the INEE Secretariat strives to cultivate a dynamic network through the recruitment of new members who represent diverse institutional affiliations, geographical regions and personal/professional profiles. If you are not already a member, please join INEE, a free and open network: www.ineesite.org/join. If you are already a member, you can manage your membership profile and find other members in the Members Database.

Advocacy, Events and Activities: the INEE Secretariat represents the network at strategic venues and through dialogue with key stakeholders and organizes events, facilitates member input into, and participates in a variety of events and activities to promote the right to education of all persons affected by crises.

Core Tools and Resources: the INEE Secretariat identifies and disseminates new resources and tools through the INEE listserv and website, updates the INEE Resource Database, and facilitates translations of key resources, For example:

INEE Resource Database
INEE Minimum Standards Toolkit
INEE Peace Education Programme

INEE Minimum Standards: the INEE Secretariat supports the INEE Working Group on Minimum Standards and promotes the INEE Minimum Standards—a global tool developed by over 2,250 individuals from more than 50 countries that defines the minimum level of educational quality and helps ensure the right to education for people affected by crisis. In particular, the Coordinator for Minimum Standards provides support to INEE individuals and organizational members to promote, implement, train on and institutionalise the INEE Minimum Standards.

Education and Fragility: the INEE Secretariat supports the INEE Working Group on Education and Fragility, which works to coordinate diverse advocacy, research and policy initiatives and catalyse collaborative action on education and fragility.

Knowledge Generation and Capacity Building Opportunities for Members: the INEE Secretariat coordinates capacity building opportunities through INEE’s Task Teams, which are formed by INEE members who work together on a particular task and/or to further the dialogue around a particular topic such as gender, adolescents and youth, HIV/AIDS, early childhood development, inclusive education. The Secretariat also facilitates opportunities for networking through INEE Language Communities (Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese) and INEE-sponsored events (e.g. INEE Global Consultations, INEE Global Meet-ups) and disseminates partner organizations’ job announcements through the INEE listserv and on the website.
