Launch of INEE Minimum Standards process at the INEE Global Consultation
The INEE Minimum Standards Update process was officially launched at the INEE Global Consultation, held in Istanbul, Turkey, 31 March – 2 April 2009. The 2009 INEE Global Consultation provided face-to-face opportunities for INEE members and partners to:
- Collaboratively explore emerging issues in the fast-changing field of education in emergencies, chronic crisis and early recovery,
- Share experiences, tools and innovative approaches to programming, advocacy, policy development and research,
- Network with policymakers, teachers, leaders from the humanitarian and education communities, and fellow INEE members, and
- Identify key challenges and gaps in programming and policy, and devise a strategy for moving forward, based on recommendations for meeting those challenges.
During the 2009 Global Consultation, participants contributed their thoughts and suggestions on how to improve the content and format of the standards for the next version of the handbook, during two of the working sessions. Smaller working groups focused on how to strengthen the standards’ crosscutting themes in HIV/AIDS, disability and vulnerability, and early childhood care and development, disaster risk reduction, adolescence and youth, gender, and the format of the Minimum Standards Handbook. The outcomes of these working groups will be taken into account in the coming stages of the update process.
