Follow-Up Training Workshops
About Follow-Up Training Workshops
Each TOT graduate is required to conduct a minimum of two follow-up training workshops on the INEE Minimum Standards within 12 months of attending an INEE Training of Trainer workshops. INEE trainers are constantly conducting dozens of follow-up trainings on the INEE Minimum Standards around the world. Follow-up trainings on the INEE Minimum Standards target a variety of audiences, from communities and teachers to local and international NGOs, to UN agencies and government officials. The INEE Secretariat has provided increased support to INEE trainers to ensure the relevance of their training workshops to their audiences, by making content and/or duration adaptations to workshop agendas and materials. Below you will find a selection of trainings with related outcome documents, and a link to a report with information on all of the follow-up trainings that have taken place on the INEE Minimum Standards (as of January 2008).

Reports from Completed Trainings
Cote d’Ivoire – Ministry of Education and UNICEF
This was a three-day workshop conducted on 18-20 June 2008 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire at the request of the Ministry of Education with the support of UNICEF, as a follow-up to the INEE Regional Capacity-Building workshop that took place in Cote d’Ivoire in July 2007. It was facilitated by the INEE Coordinator for Minimum Standards and a graduate from the INEE TOT for Francophone Africa. Thirty-seven high-level participants attended: all education regional directors, directors at the central MoE level, and advisors from the Education Minister’s cabinet. After introducing the INEE Minimum Standards to participants, the workshop focused on their implementation in a post-crisis context like Cote d’Ivoire and their institutionalization at all levels within the MoE. An institutionalization plan was collectively developed and endorsed, including the nomination of a focal point on the INEE Minimum Standards within the MoE’s Department of Primary, Middle and High Schools. The report is in French and is available here. An article published in the Fraternite Matin newspaper on the workshop and INEE is available here.
Benin - UNICEF
This was a three-day and a half workshop conducted from May 22-25th, 2007 in Benin jointly by a francophone INEE member and the INEE Capacity Building Manager. Not only did trainers use an adapted background scenario focusing on repatriation issues but a field visit was integrated into the training and served as the basis for Session 8 on Evaluation of Emergency Education Programs. This training involved participants both from Benin and Togo who work on cross-border education issues. The workshop report is in French.
Congo Brazzaville - UNHCR
This was a one-day training workshop conducted on April 2nd, 2007 in Congo Brazzaville by the INEE Capacity Building Manager for UNHCR and partner NGOs. Adaptations to the training materials were made to fit the one-day workshop and to reflect education issues at stake in Congo Brazzaville, such as developing a scenario on repatriation. This report is available in French.
Côte d’Ivoire – Save the Children Alliance
This was a three-day workshop conducted from May 15-17th, 2007 in Côte d’Ivoire by three francophone TOT graduates working with Save the Children Alliance d’Ivoire and Senegal. The workshop report is in French.

This four-day workshop was held in March 2008 in Apaneca, El Salvador by the Ministry of Education, UNICEF, Civil Protection and Plan. There were 28 participants, representing the Ministry of Education, NGOs and Higher Education Institutions. This three-day training workshop on the INEE Minimum Standards was conducted on behalf of Save the Children’s Rewrite the Future initiative, Catholic Relief Services and the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) on 22-23-24 January 2007 in Port-au-Prince. Several adaptations were made to the INEE training materials: the Zamborra background note was adapted to reflect a chronic crisis/early reconstruction context, scenarios and roles were adapted to include issues at stake in Haiti, such as urban gangs, rural/urban challenges, restaveks, etc. An activity on disaster preparedness was also added and a representative. Because of the number of participants, more roles were drafted and exercises adapted to stimulated group work. This report is in English.

The roles for the simulation activity were adapted to include a strong focus on gender issues as they pertain to education. Another adaptation is that participants discussed using the INEE Minimum Standards for Research, Programming and Advocacy with experts in these respective fields as facilitators. The workshop report is in English.
Uganda – UNICEF ESARO
This was a three-day workshop organized by UNICEF ESARO for regional UNICEF staff and MoE representatives on 12-15 September, 2006. The training design was adapted in several ways: for instance, it combined the monitoring and evaluation exercises from the INEE manual into one session using a common M&E format to limit time and reduce confusion about which framework to use. Trainers also adapted the sessions on disaster preparedness, education policy, and responses to emergencies to regional realities. Finally, they extended the application/synthesis session into a series of application activities to help participants map out next steps within the UNICEF and MOE planning systems and frameworks.
