Regional Capacity Building Workshops
About Regional Capacity Building Workshops
INEE's Regional Capacity Building Workshops have been developed to respond to findings from INEE Minimum Standards evaluations and the requests from INEE members, and were conducted worldwide throughout 2007 and 2008. These Workshops will strengthen the regional and national capacity of education and humanitarian workers to conduct trainings on and institutionalize the application of the INEE Minimum Standards and thus ensure the provision of quality education in emergencies, chronic crisis and early reconstruction.
Building on Regional Training of Trainer and Follow-Up Training Workshops, the Capacity Building Workshops will facilitate the sharing of challenges, lessons learnt and good practices in the training and implementation of the INEE Minimum Standards undertaken globally to date. These workshops are designed to be informed by the local context, and participants are required to lead many of the sessions, identifying recommendations and developing strategies to facilitate the training and implementation process at regional and national level.
Workshop content
The Workshop will also introduce the INEE Minimum Standards Toolkit and a range of other new materials and initiatives developed to aid in the implementation on the Minimum Standards. Participants will share information and deepen their understanding of relevant national, regional and global initiatives, such as the INEE Global Consultation, the INEE Teacher Compensation Initiative and the IASC Education Cluster and the ISDR Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. Finally participants will work collectively to create national and regional plans of action to strengthen the dissemination, promotion and use of the INEE Minimum Standards.
Selection criteria
Approximately 40 people will participate in each workshop, meeting the following criteria:
- Participated in a regional Training of Trainers Workshop on the INEE Minimum Standards (2006-2007)
- Held a minimum of one training following their TOT workshop and/or implemented the standards in a substantial way into their work following the training and/or are able to point to specific obstacles that prevented them from training on/implementing the INEE Minimum Standards

Completed Capacity Building Workshops
The INEE Regional Capacity Building Workshops brought delegates together to share challenges, lessons learnt and good practices in the training and implementation of the INEE Minimum Standards. The delegates participated in refresher trainings on how to use the INEE Minimum Standards and were introduced to new tools for the implementation and institutionalisation of the INEE Minimum Standards, including the INEE Minimum Standards Toolkit and the INEE Adoption Strategy Checklists. Additional information presented to delegates included the IASC Education Cluster, the inter-agency initiative to develop Guidance Notes on Teacher Compensation, education-focused Disaster Risk Reduction, and the 2009 INEE Global Consultation.
Discussion around these issues contributed to the development of concrete individual and inter-agency national action plans to further promote, train on, implement and institutionalise the INEE Minimum Standards in order to provide access to quality, relevant, and inclusive education to all persons affected by crisis.
